Shopping in Silvassa

Silvassa is blessed with a very strong footfall of tourists all the year around due to its close proximity to some major Indian cities. Typically not a shopping destination, the tourists can look forward to various shopping areas and markets selling tribal arts and crafts, due to the predominant tribal background of this place. Various co-operative societies also has been established which are helping the local craftsmen in different cottage industries, by forming small selling shops, which have increased their earning potential.

Kilvani road is the main shopping area of Silvassa. Different small and big shops are lined on both sides of the street, welcoming tourists with local arts and handicrafts.

Shopping in Silvassa means one has to buy different artwork bearing the traditional Warli Art. This ancient tribal art forms are available on small souvenirs, pots, vases and paintings. Originated by the Varli tribes, this Warli artwork has been commercialised by the Silvassa government. These paintings show different geometric forms of white and earthly colors and are available in almost all art and handicraft shops at more or less fixed price.

Bags made out of re-used paper and flour are also an interesting pick. Beautiful smoking pipes of wood, bamboo crafts, palm leaf handmade mats made by the tribals are popular buy among the tourists.
