Silvassa is the abode of few prominent tribes namely, Warli (or Varli), Dhodia and Kokna. Lifestyle maintained by the tribals is simple and colourful. They are in general traditionally dressed, with men wearing knee length dhoti or loin cloth combined with a shirt and a turban. Women dress up with knee length colourful sarees and front anchal.
Throughout the year tribals have many festivals to celebrate like Kanseri Festival, Divaso Festival and Vagh Baras. During these times the house walls are painted with Warli Paintings with men and women getting decked up in colourful dhotis and sarees. During these times, Warli women beautify themselves with silver and white metal ornaments like bangles, ankle kadas and colourful bead necklace. Men also dress up with white or coloured caps and ornaments like earrings with silver chains around their waist. The Kokna Tribal Dance is a famous art form of Silvassa, where men and women dress in their traditional dhoti and sari and dance in close formation with the Tarpha or Pavri. The whole village eat together during these festival times.Modern Lifestyle Change
Post 1970 the industrial growth has helped the locals of Silvassa town to move ahead and accept new lifestyle. The town people have got educated and welcomed many new cultures in the territory. Modern town men have changed their attire and taken up shirts and trousers, with women welcoming salwar suits and proper length sarees. Many shopping arcades have developed in and around Kilvani road, selling modern apparels. People visit shopping malls like Empress Mall nowadays to shop.Property in Silvassa is becoming a money- turning affair nowadays, as it offers various options for Residential Property, Commercial Property and Industrial properties as well. There are many gated communities coming up in Silvassa offering 2 and 3 BHK flats and Bunglows. Naroli road is the most developed area with many beautiful residential projects around.
Many luxury resorts and hotels are also present in Silvassa, like Treat Resort. They provide comfort staying and luxury amenities to the tourists and also give the locals access to their health clubs, multi gyms, spas and swimming pools.
This town also gives its residents few well equipped gyms like Fitness Point Gym and Sri Sai Nutrition, helping to maintain an improved life.The City Municipal Council with government support has made concrete walking pavements in different areas and parks for early risers and joggers. Weekends are also enjoyed with family and friends at Dudhni waterfront doing different water sports like jet skies, rowing boats, kayaks and canoes. Nowadays people go for trekking adventures and star gazing while staying in a tent at Kauncha.
Though not like an urban city, but Silvassa has got few lifestyle amenities for the people who wants to enjoy different luxuries to pamper themselves. This development has happened due to the proximity of Silvassa with Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Many entrepreneurial developments have taken place in these fields.
