Vasona Lion Safari Park

Vasona Lion Safari

The Vasona Lion Safari is a part of the 92 square kms of Dadra and Nagar Haveli Widlife Sanctuary. This safari park was built with the intention of conservation of Asiatic lion and lioness (Panthera Leo), track on their breeding and taking care of the cubs with proper medication and food.

The wildlife sanctuary is located 20 kms away from the town on the Khanvel - Silvassa road, the park is adjacent to the Satmalia Deer Park. The entire area of the park is about 25 hectares and is circumferenced with 7 meter high chained walls which measures about 3 km in length, which also separates the lion safari from the rest of sanctuary. There are different entrances securing the safari, and visitors can use caged SUVs and mini-buses to roam around. Visitors have to pay around Rs. 25/- per adult and Rs. 10/- per child for the safari trip of 20 minutes.

The safari is open all week from 9 to 5 excepting Mondays. The government has taken very little initiative to uplift the condition of this place. With time this safari park is loosing its charm among the tourists.

This park is about 4 kms away from Silvassa, 12 kms away from Dadra and 16 kms away from Khanvel. Apart from private vehicles, many government buses run everyday between Khanvel, Silvassa town and the Safari park. Auto rickshaws will also come to your rescue and take you back to the main town. Tourists are advised to carry their own food and water, as Vasona Safari Park has no food stalls inside the enclave.
