Swaminarayan Temple

Silvassa, the capital of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, is a quiet tribal town popular for its amazing natural beauty and beautiful tourist spots. On a tour to Silvassa, it is advisable not to miss the Swaminarayan Temple. This temple is famous especially among the Gujrati devotees and the structure is almost a replica to the “Swami Narayan Akshardham” in Gandhinagar.

This architectural masterpiece is situated on the banks of river Daman Ganga, on Silvassa Bhilad road. The temple complex is considerably new and comprises of the huge temple along with wide green lawns surrounding it. The temple complex is dedicated to Bhagwan Swaminarayan and has an intricately carved central Mandir built entirely from a special light pink coloured marble rock, with no structural steel or cement being used.

The temple has many artistically decorated domes, inside of which have large carved flowers, whose petals spread in the form of chandeliers. The exquisite architectures on the temple walls display beautiful art works and idols of famous Indian saints.

The temple opens at around 11.30am everyday with the melodious prayer chant and aarti by the priests, accompanied by Nagara (or drums) and bells. The Bhagwan idol is gorgeously dressed like an emperor, with a blue sherwani coat and a grand turban along with dazzling jewellery. The idol dresses differently in different occasion, maintaining the pomp and grandeur.

A walk into the clean long stretched green lawns with stunning deer statues is soothing. Beside the temple complex the Daman Ganga river flows, adding to its beauty.

BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha

Swaminarayan temple workers and priests are not only glorifying the culture and heritage of India through their prayers, rather they are majorly into community development of the entire union territory including Silvassa. The BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha is a spiritual, volunteer-driven organization dedicating themselves, selflessly in improving social and individual growth.

Health and Wellness- provides mobile medical units to the backward villages, gives free ayurvedic  medicine, conducts free yoga classes and health education programs and creates awareness of blood and bone marrow donation.

Environment- Promotes program like tree plantation, recycling of used items, energy and water conservation.

Rural and Community Development- helps in family harmony campaigns, marital counseling, anti-dowry and anti child marriage campaigns, poverty eradication campaigns.
